Susanne Müller-Knapp
Goethe Universität Frankfurt
Susanne Müller-Knapp studied Human Biology at the University of Marburg, Germany and received a PhD in molecular biology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden (1997). She then had more than six years of postdoctoral training in the area of inflammation and gene regulation in at the Karolinska Institute and at the DIBIT San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, working on the role of NF-kB in inflammatory bowel disease as well as the function of the chromatin-binding protein HMGB1 and its role in inflammation. In 2004, she joined the SGC at the University of Oxford, where she worked first as external research manager and then scientific coordinator. She has been the project manager of the Epigenetic Probe Project, which creates tool compounds with defined specificity and selectivity for epigenetic targets, and is heading the cell-based assay group that is setting up cellular model systems to establish the efficacy and biological effect of the developed epigenetic inhibitors. The project comprises 10 international pharmaceutical companies and a large network of academic and industrial collaborators. She is now also coordinating the kinase probe effort, an international project with efforts in Campinas (Brazil), UNC (US), the University of Oxford (UK), and at the Goethe-University, Frankfurt (Germany).
