Justin Bower

Justin Bower is Head of Chemistry & Structural Biology at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research in Glasgow, where he moved in 2010 during the expansion of CRUK’s Drug Discovery efforts. Before joining the Beatson Institute, he spent eleven years working in the pharma (AstraZeneca) and biotech (Vernalis) industries where he led medicinal chemistry teams from hit identification through to clinical candidate nomination across a range of disease areas. Justin has a keen interest in structure-guided drug design and fragment-based methods, integrating medicinal chemistry with structural biology.

Prior to his career in drug discovery, he obtained a PhD in chemistry from the University of Loughborough, UK under the guidance of Professor Jonathan Williams, and carried out post-doctoral research at the University of Waterloo, Canada with Professor Victor Snieckus.
