Anna-Lena Gustavsson
Karolinska Institutet
Anna-Lena holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and has over a decade of experience in drug discovery research within the pharmaceutical industry. Her expertise spans both computational chemistry and project management. In 2010, Anna-Lena co-founded the Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS), a national research infrastructure in chemical biology. CBCS provides specialized expertise in assay development, small molecule screening, and follow-up medicinal/computational chemistry support to academic researchers across Sweden (www.cbcs.se). Since 2017, Anna-Lena has served as the Managing Director of CBCS. Under her leadership, CBCS operates as a distributed and coordinated infrastructure, funded by the Swedish Research Council. It encompasses activities at six universities across Sweden, with an annual budget of approximately 40 MSEK and 24 full-time employees. CBCS supports around 50 research groups per year. Together with the CRISPR Functional Genomics unit and the Chemical Proteomics unit, CBCS forms a unique multidisciplinary platform at the Science for Life Laboratory (www.scilifelab.se). This government-funded national infrastructure is dedicated to advancing molecular biosciences in Sweden.
